There’s nothing better than a standout rhythm section. A great beat from the drums & a steady bass hook can pull you into a song like nobody’s business. I had this exact phenomenon hit me today, with the release of Ghost Soul’s new single “Floating World”!
Funnily enough, my fascination with “Floating World” reminds me a lot of my fascination with Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover”, despite the two tracks being very different. However, they both have a drum part with an addictive rhythm that is reminiscent of an avalanche, and that’s what always gets me in the end. This one in particular was really enjoyable to listen to with headphones, mostly due to the very resonant and satisfying kick that the bass drum has.
I enjoyed the song from just the drums, but it was clear once all the instruments joined in that Ghost Soul is not messing around. A quick bass circling around the twinkly synths, a falsetto reached with ease balances a chunky electric guitar, a particularly awesome tambourine— the layers of the song just keep building, and it only gets more impressive as it goes along!
With “Floating World”, Ghost Soul has created a stellar track that covers all the bases of stuff you could want in a song. With a catchy melody, crashing bridge, and floatingly calm ending, this is not one to miss.
