My Valentine’s Day was fantastic, and it’s all thanks to the Knee Hi’s! Wednesday marked the release of not one, not two, but THREE fabulous songs by the coolest girl group around, a moment I’ve been waiting for ever since the EP was announced last month. While all three songs are phenomenal, the title track is really something else.
“Crush” is a sweet song with a rockin’ edge, a tune that kicks down the door to your heart with platform mary janes, throwing a strawberry scented glitter bomb just to make sure its got you right where it wants you. If there’s one thing to be assured of, its that the Knee-Hi’s will always write a catchy song. Case in point, I’ve had the hook of their tune “Make You Mine” stuck in my head for the two years that have passed since the release of their debut album Charmed. “Crush” is no different, with a consistent melody line that makes it easy to sing along with. Every piece of this song is constructed and balanced perfectly, from the slightly distorted vocals and shredding guitar to the chunky bass and drums that go absolutely crazy. Not only that, but the track features one of the greatest bridges I’ve ever heard, a soft, cluster-harmonied segment that’s short and sweet, leading into a great guitar solo. What more could you want?!
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I’ll just come right out and profess my love for the Knee Hi’s. I’ve loved listening to their music ever since their debut single “Darlin’ Darlin’”, and I’m so excited to see what the future will bring for this amazing band. While I’ve only covered “Crush”, be sure to listen to the other songs that accompany it, the appropriately named “Flame in Your Heart” and “Teenage Heart”, and let the Knee Hi’s take you on a rockin’ journey you won’t ever regret!
