There’s no better feeling in this world than wrapping yourself in a comforter and sinking into your bed after a long day. Okay, maybe holding a kitten is a better feeling. Or maybe it’s baking chocolate chip cookies on a rainy day? Regardless of what the perfect representation of this best feeling actually is, I can confidently say Sydney Fay’s single “It’ll Take Time” makes me feel it all around.
(It’s kind of ironic due to the lyrical content that it would make me feel this way, but it’s unavoidable due to the gorgeous sound of the song itself!!)
A self-proclaimed “jazz influenced singer-songwriter”, Fay’s beautifully rich voice shines brightly on this laid-back track. I find this song especially interesting because of it’s minimalistic qualities. There are very few instruments accompanying Fay’s voice, and I believe this was the perfect choice to make when it comes to this song, as she effortlessly glides her voice through the melody lines. I absolutely LOVE how her voice sounds on the lower notes of the song.
“It’ll Take Time” is one of those rare songs that can be enjoyed with or without listening to the lyrics. Fay’s sleepy voice throughout the track means that this song is the perfect one to put on loop when studying, sleeping, or just generally relaxing. However, I can’t just ignore the lyrics, because many of the phrases in this song are dripping with emotion.
Case in point: “some things i’ll never know/if you long for me/to be in my company/or am i wanting too carelessly”. I mean come ON!! If you do choose to hone in on the lyrical side of the song, you’ll find a very conflicted protagonist telling a very complicated story, one that will no doubt occupy your mind for more than a little while.
If this song is just a taste of Fay’s new EP, (coming out on November 10th, btw!!) then I have no doubt that we’re in for a real treat. After all, who wouldn’t want more of that chocolate chip cookie, cozy rainy day, kitten holding feeling?
