Daylight savings certainly has trade-offs. It’s been pretty trippy to have pitch darkness at five thirty, but I will say I love the early sunrise. With this new sun schedule, I’ve been searching for songs to accompany both a moonlit walk home and a peaceful beginning of the day, and Blacktop’s “So Blue” is exactly the type of tune that fits.
It’s clear in every second that there’s a lot of thoughtful care within the track. Slow and deliberate, it sounds the way shooting stars look, a sense of peace and wonder remaining true throughout the song. Every little detail adds to make a stellar product — from echo effects to subtle bird chirps to the rattle of the snare — every element fits so well despite being completely different from one another. The vocals are soft but filled with meaning, swelling to a beaming harmony at the end of the chorus that absolutely shines.
“So Blue” is a sweet song, one that projects a comfort you can hold onto, one that is clear and fully present. The mellow sort of melancholy it provides is one that fits perfectly no matter the occasion, a tune that can give you a moment to breathe or wind you down with just one listen. (Though of course, you’re sure to go back for more!)
