I love a song that’s loud and nonstop, the type that doesn’t let up for the whole duration. This is exactly what “Boy’s Life”, the newest tune by Wax Jaw is like — a boulder rolling faster and faster down the metaphorical hill, crushing anything and everything in its path. It’s an unapologetic song that’s tough as nails, a catchy and important piece that holds a lot of power within it.
It starts the way I would imagine something ending, a faraway guitar, relaxed drums and steady bass dropping you right into the situation, letting the listener get into position before the all out punch the real introduction to the song gives. Every instrument is totally in tune, shredding loud and proud behind vocals that are masterfully controlled, angry and out there and unafraid yet right in time and delivering a great sting. Each piece has its time to shine, with the bass having a crazy impressive line during the verse, the drums exploding right before each chorus, and the guitar absolutely bodying the transition back to the verse.
“Boy’s Life” is a song that tells me immediately that Wax Jaw is already at their best, not ready to come down anytime soon. Every aspect of the track is on point, combining to create a blast fierce enough to take down everything in its path. And that’s exactly how it should be!

Tune to my radio show “No Static at All” this (and every) Sunday from 1:30-3:30pm EST here! This week is technically my fall break, but since I’m still in the studio I am going to do a scramble show, meaning I’ll be playing the stuff I just really wanna blast out loud :)
