Did You Hear? - Tchotchke (Newer Music Saturday)
Some people associate the beginning of summer with the days getting longer and the sun coming out. Others think it has to do with certain flowers blooming and the smell of a grill firing up. For me, I knew summer was officially here two weeks ago, with the arrival of Tchotchke’s brand-new track! “Did You Hear?” is their first since 2022’s Tchotchke, an album that not only stole my heart the very first time I listened, and continues to do so every time I hit repeat. With “Did You Hear?”, Tchotchke prove that they’re ready to take the world by storm once again!
The song starts with a strong power chord, the type that catches your attention right away. The sound is in it to win it, then strips back super quick right before the verse. I’ve always loved Tchotchke’s use of keyboards since their song “Dizzy”, and this track is no different. It gives the perfect amount of punctuation to the floaty vocals over top. Speaking of that, this song kind of feels like an updated version of “Tell Me More” from Grease. I love a song that tells you a secret, makes you feel like part of the action. “Did You Hear?” does exactly that, with a chorus that’s just as much fun to sing along to as it is to listen to, stacking candy-coated harmonies and sparkling just as brightly as they always have (and always will)!
I remember the first time I saw Tchotchke was at a Lemon Twigs show in Cleveland. My friends and I were at a sandwich shop and we looked them up after seeing they were opening and thought they looked so cool, we absolutely HAD to get there early. That night solidified my standing as a Tchotchke fan forever, because they totally rocked. Two years and one album later, I’m still here and real excited about what’ll come next… and I have no doubt it’ll sound just as great as “Did You Hear?”!
