Happy New Year’s Eve! I thought the coolest way to celebrate would be to highlight some of my favorite musical moments of this year that I covered on Ear Bites. Here’s to many more in 2025!
Great to see yet another album from The Lemon Twigs, my favorite golden boys leading the charge on the 70s sound revival. A Dream is All We Know was a terrific triumph, and the spring release date it adhered to makes a new Twigs album one of the most reliable ways to tell time! I love all the songs on it, even more when played on the cotton candy colored vinyl version I was lucky enough to grab. Check out my original review of two songs from the album here!
Back in September, I embarked on my three concert in four week run, and Tommy Stinson was smack dab in the middle. On a regular Friday night I went with a good friend of mine over to the terrific Used Kids Records to see him play, and it was really great. I hope I get to see him again soon! Check out the piece I wrote on his classic with Bash & Pop here.
Speaking of concerts, I also got to see twenty one pilots for the first time in October, a band I’ve been waiting to see since I was thirteen! They released their album Clancy back in May, and it was a real fun way to kick off the summer. Check out my review on the album here.
One concert I missed out on was Joey Valence & Brae’s No Hands tour. This is something I’m still a little mad about, since I think the album was terrific. However, I got some friends to go, so I guess I’m satisfied watching their videos and knowing they had a great time. The album is exactly the right dose of fun and damn good music that’s needed these days. I never wrote a review on the full thing, but check out this piece I wrote back when one of the singles on it came out here.
Finally, here’s something I didn’t cover but feel like I need to. Tyler the Creator’s Chromakopia has been out since late October, but the way it’s been talked about makes it feel like it’s been around forever. The whole album is great, but “Like Him” is a standout for a reason. I genuinely believe it’s not only one of the greatest songs of the year, but one of the greatest of all time.
Those are just a couple picks. I hope that by scrolling through my reviews this year, you’re able to find something new you dig. Thanks for the support & see you next year!
